ABOUT OUR COACHES
OUR COACHES
One of the most important things our Coaches promote is the social side of sport and the sense of belonging to a team. We firmly believe that there is a sport for everyone, and if children can have positive experiences of sport during their time in or out of school, they can then bring these experiences in to their adult lives, continuing to stay active and enjoy taking on new sports and challenges in the future – whether that’s netball, football, athletics, tennis or something else!
We are proud of the high standard of coaches that work across our Netball Academy and Play Sports Juniors school clubs. We select our Academy coaching squad, and partner schools with coaches that have a strong background to the sport they teach, ensuring they not only possess the skills and knowledge required to teach the game but also have a genuine passion for helping young players develop.
IN SESSION
Our coaches aim is to help to strengthen and progress the understanding and skills from 5 year old students all the way to 17 years old, from helping to perfect new and core skills and tactics, to helping build the confidence to apply these in-session and matches. The core of each session is planned ahead of each term, allowing the coach flexibility to adapt, depending on the progress/ability of the children attending.
Each of our coaches are responsible for planning their weekly sessions, using an approved bank of ideas for games, warm-ups, and skill activities that are appropriate for each age group, focussing on developing and progressing skills, teamwork and confidence over the term’s duration. Each coach will be confident to lead sessions to between 10-30 children independently, and understands how to effectively officiate for each age group, and will use a certain amount of discretion when officiating match-play, to maintain the children’s concentration, confidence and enjoyment.
SAFETY
Each coach will have passed a 2-stage interview, and will fulfil our compulsory training before they are able to start coaching. Every coach will have passed and will hold: First Aid Training, DBS Checks & Safeguard training.
Our coaches are responsible for bringing the necessary equipment and First Aid Kit to every session. This includes bringing either a tablet, or work-phone which holds the register, medical information, and contact details for the children.
For schools: Coaches will correctly clean and store your equipment every week. None of our equipment will ever be stored at a school, unless a school has requested this.
