INFORMATION FOR SCHOOLS

SPORT IN SCHOOLS

PE is compulsory at all Key Stages (from age 5 to 16), that means schools must teach PE as part of the curriculum. But, there is no legal minimum number of hours that schools must provide PE.

  • The National Curriculum sets out what must be taught (skills, sports, swimming, outdoor activity, etc.).

  • In England & Northern Ireland, the government recommends schools provide at least 2 hours per week of high-quality PE or sport, but it is not law.

  • In Wales, the Government recommends schools aim for 60 minutes of physical activity per day, but it is not law.
  • In Scotland, there is a legal requirement of at least 2 hours of physical education each week.
  • Ofsted inspects how schools deliver PE, and they do look for a “broad and balanced curriculum”, including physical education.

why schools choose us

The reason why so many schools choose to play with us is because we are able to strengthen your schools offer, without necessarily costing you any money, time or resources!

Our programmes give children greater access to sport beyond the core PE curriculum and recommended weekly hours. As mentioned, it doesn’t even have to cost your school any money and more importantly, it requires no extra time during the school day, meaning pupils can benefit from additional, high-quality sporting experiences without adding pressure to timetables or budgets.

Ran by our experienced and trained coaches, your students can expect to gain valuable experience of netball or football over planned, weekly extra-curricular sessions during term-time. Aimed at school years from 1 to 11, Play Sports Juniors helps develop agility, balance, and coordination through a mix of games, physical activities, and skill-building exercises, split into KS1, KS2, KS3 & KS4 after-school groups.

Students do not need to have any prior experience of their chosen sport, just the desire and excitement to play!

WHY WE LOVE SPORT

What we wish is that every young person can feel empowered by something, whether that is through sport or something else entirely.

We want to give children easy access sports, which is why we welcome all abilities and experiences, as it’s not just technical skills that we deliver in our sessions; we love what sport brings personally, socially, physically and emotionally.

Your students will have the space outside the classroom to learn important life-skills through sport, such as developing bonds with teammates and working as a team, building self-confidence, leading groups and being part of a community.

These skills are important building blocks to adulthood and can encourage success in many aspects of life.

The best thing about our after school club sessions is the children don’t need to have any experience as we can coach any age or ability. As long as they have to desire and want to play, that’s all that matters.
